Exhaust System: Service and Repair
EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3 WITH TC]Warning:
^ A hot engine and exhaust system can cause severe burns. Turn off the engine and wait until they are cool before removing the exhaust system.
1. Remove the negative battery cable.
2. Remove in the order indicated in the table.
3. Install in the reverse order of removal.
HO2S Removal Note
1. Remove the insulator (WU-TWC top side). (Front HO2S)
2. Remove the battery and battery tray.
3. Remove the HO2S using the SST before removing the exhaust manifold.
Insulator Removal Note
1. Remove the charge air cooler and the charge air cooler bracket.
Caution:
^ When removing the cowl, a part or tool may hit the edge of the windshield and could damage it. Protect the windshield by covering it with a clean rag to prevent damage to the windshield.
2. Remove the cowl grille.
3. Remove the insulators.
WU-TWC Removal Note
1. Set the generator out of the way.
2. Disconnect the vacuum hose (Master cylinder side).
3. Remove the WU-TWC.
Exhaust Manifold Installation Note
1. Tighten the exhaust manifold installation nuts in the order shown.
Tightening torque 43 - 64 Nm (4.4 - 6.5 kgf-m, 32 - 47 ft. lbs.)
WU-TWC Installation Note
1. Temporarily tighten No.1 shown in the figure.
2. Temporarily tighten No.2 shown in the figure,
3. Temporarily tighten No.3 shown in the figure,
4. Completely tighten No.1 shown in the figure.
Tightening torque 38 - 51 Nm (3.9 - 5.2 kgf-m, 29 - 37 ft. lbs.)
5. Completely tighten No.2 shown in the figure.
Tightening torque 38 - 51 Nm (3.9 - 5.2 kgf-m, 29 - 37 ft. lbs.)
6. Completely tighten No.3 shown in the figure.
Tightening torque 38 - 51 Nm (3.9 - 5.2 kgf-m, 29 - 37 ft. lbs.)
Middle Pipe and Main Silencer Installation Note
Note:
^ If any the following parts are removed, loosen all the nuts installed between these parts and perform the following procedure: catalytic converter, middle pipe, main silencer.
1. Set the middle pipe mount, and temporarily tighten to the catalytic converter.
2. Set the left and right main silencer mounts, and temporarily tighten to the middle pipe.
3. Completely tighten the installation nuts between the catalytic converter and middle pipe.
Tightening torque 43 - 60 Nm (4.4 - 6.1 kgf-m, 32 - 44 ft. lbs.)
4. Completely tighten the installation nuts between main silencer and middle pipe in the order of left side, then right side.
Tightening torque 38 - 51 Nm (3.9 - 5.2 kgf-m, 29 - 37 ft. lbs.)
