Propeller Shaft Inspection

PROPELLER SHAFT INSPECTION





1. Disassemble the propeller shaft.
2. Measure the propeller shaft center runout using the dial gauge.
^ If it exceeds the maximum specification, replace the propeller shaft as a single component.
Maximum propeller shaft runout 0.3 mm (0.012 inch)





3. Inspect the play and rotation of the joint by turning the universal joint in the directions shown by the arrows.
Rear Differential side
^ If it is not within the specification, replace the rear propeller shaft.
Others
^ If it is not within the specification, adjust by choosing the proper snap ring.
Propeller shaft starting torque
Rear Differential side: 0.29 - 0.98 Nm (3.0 - 9.9 kgf-cm, 2.6 - 8.6 inch lbs.)
Others: 0.29 - 1.18 Nm (3.0 - 12.0 kgf-cm, 2.6 - 10.4 inch lbs.)
